what are dreams
Wednesday, June 12, 2013 | 0 comments
So midyears are around the corner and I've not been studying.
(Yeah blogging I know)
I was so frustrated that I lamented to my mum,
"Why do we have to go to school?
Why am I studying?
Why am I wasting my life memorising formulas when I could be out there exploring the world and helping people?"

I just can't help but to feel that we're all being suppressed by societal norms.
It's frustrating really, and I'm trying so hard to break free and I have to admit, I'm ashamed because I don't have the guts to break free.

I've always love the arts, be it visual arts, music, dance, theatre, literature, I love them all so much, when I was a kid I decided that one of them would become my future career. But recently, I started pondering again....why?
Why do I want my future career to my related to the arts?
Why do I want to do it?
Is there another reason besides genuinely liking it?

And I realised... that I actually want to make change.
I know this sounds ridiculous but go ahead and laugh. I laughed at my dream too.

You know how the world seems to revolve around money and our selfish aims?
I hate it. Absolutely hate it.
Why is money so important?
Why do we need to live in big houses and own expensive cars?
Why do we need luxury items?
Why do we waste our youth, or rather our lives, pursuing things that only have superficial purposes?

What about the dreams and imaginations we had as a kid but lost them along the way?

I want to use the arts to help people realise that it's ok being different, it's ok not having the same dream as others. It's ok living a life of your own.

But I look back and think about myself. Am I really worthy of telling people these when I myself dream of breaking free but don't have the guts to do so?
Thanks, BTS.

la salle

Went to art friend today and bought canvas, paint and brushes.
I'm going to do art whenever I can now.
Why?
Because I want to get into La Salle so bad!!!

I swear from the moment I saw the school, I was drawn towards it and it was exactly how I imagined my dream school to be. It's magical, really. (:

I'm kinda determined to transfer to La Salle if I get retained this year, but no worries, I promise I'll still work hard and try to get promoted this year.

I'm afraid that I won't get accepted into La Salle though... I just don't have confidence in myself.

When I close my eyes, I can imagine myself going to school at La Salle, sitting on a stool in the art room, discussing with the teacher, choosing my paintbrush and deciding whether to use a graphite, sepia or charcoal pencil. And when it's break time and I walk out. I hear music and counting, I walk past the dance/theatre studio and see dancers jumping and twirling with determination spelt out on their faces. Beads of sweat drip down and their shirts are drenched. Their muscles tense up and their breathing gets heavy. But they don't stop. Practicing for their next play or performance maybe. As I walk further down, I hear a gentle melody flowing and my heart calms down at that peaceful song. I look into the small window pane on the door out of curiosity and I see a girl sitting in front of the piano. Her hands are poised and her fingers float gracefully over the keyboard. Then she pauses, she takes out her pencil and scribbles on her blank manuscript. A smile appears on her face and she continues composing her masterpiece. I continue walking down and this time, I hear people singing. The strong vocalists, with a soft accompaniment in the background, just enough to support the group of voices. A high note followed by a powerful riff and turn. Different voices, but all of them full of soul. I walk down to the cafeteria and pass by a wall, splattered with colours and patterns, as if somebody threw up rainbow on it, and full of graffiti. Art students, I smile to myself.
I'm immersed in music, grooving to the song and dance, I see pictures, sculptures, colours... lots of them...My life is ten times a shade brighter than before and the best part is, I'm doing what I like and loving what I do.

La Salle, wait for me.

Because I got bored AGAIN

piano exam

Completed my piano exam~~
/pops confetti/

I feel so relieved now...
I can finally focus on the upcoming tests and the character competition! ^^

I think I did ok..
My scales were perfect, no mistakes. So proud of myself for that 8D
Hehe, erm my pieces..
I made a mistake in my first piece and it's obvious. ):
Sightreading... the last note was F but I pressed G instead D:
And I think I forgot about the Bflat. :/
Aural was horrible though.
I totally forgot the pitch and melody for the singing part.
But I think I did ok for the sight-singing.
Ahah the last section of aural..
He asked me to comment on the character of the piece and say the style.
I said that it's classical and the examiner was like, "Classical?!"
And then there was this awkward silence for 3 seconds because I didn't know whether I should change my answer or not. But I didn't. Because to me it sounded either romantic or classical but he didn't say romantic in the option so I chose classical.
And the commenting part..

Me: "It....sounded sad and-"
Examiner: "Thank you."
Me: O_O
LOL.

It ended really quickly and I didn't have a bad feeling about it (besides aural)..
Hopefully I can get a merit/distinction!! ^^;

These few weeks in school made me realise that I am going the wrong way and this is really not I want.
It's hard to explain but I really believe in my intuition. When I think this isn't for me, it really isn't.
Things aren't as easy as it seems right now..
I missed my chance of going to SOTA because my family discouraged me.
I regretted.
They told me I was young. They said I wasn't ready to fix a path for myself.
Even though I knew better and knew that they were wrong, I stupidly obeyed.

I don't want to regret again or let another chance slip by me..
When your dream hasn't changed since you were 10, you know deep down that you are dead right.
I really don't know what to do now.
All these years in RV made me neglect art and it's hard to pick it up all over again..
I could paint, imitate famous artists' painting and do a variety of craft previously.
But now, the only thing I can do is draw and maybe help make birthday gifts for my friends.
These aren't going to help in my portfolio and I can't get into an art school based on my drawings 10 years ago.
I'm lost. I'm not ready.
But that's what I really want.
Should I stay and complete A levels for security?
Or should I chase dreams recklessly?

Besides this dilemma, I think I have reached a point where I can't bear to leave RV.
I can't imagine leaving all my dear friends behind...
I can't imagine not going for band practices and having fun with my juniors.
Band was my escape, it was my heaven after school.
How can I leave it behind?
Plus I heard that Ms Chan is going to close down Alumni band...
What about the small dream of performing in the Esplanade?
Everything is just not going the right way.

I really don't know what to do now..
I'm thinking of building up my portfolio during these 2 years and then take As and run away to La Salle  but... what about my grades for A levels? Am I really capable of getting in La Salle?
It's all these insecurities that stop me..
People around me go "Wow! You draw so well!" but honestly, I don't feel that way.
I saw this somewhere,"Just because your friends, family or neighbours say that you are good at art, doesn't necessarily mean that you are good. A true artist must be able to garner real reactions and most importantly, get people to stop, look and want to own his paintings."
After reading this, am I truly, good at art? Probably not.

Worst part is, I calculated my L1R5.
It is 16.
SIXTEEN.
I can't even get into the animation course in poly, what makes me think that I will get through JC and pass A levels with flying colours? If I don't do well for As, then what's the point of me staying on in RV?

They always say "follow your heart".
But it's not that easy when you have so many things holding you down.
I'm lost, really lost.

Happy birthday to me~
Heheh! I'm 17!!
My favourite number and I think I don't want to grow any older... ):

Woke up this morning and received a few unexpected but nonetheless, super sweet birthday texts!
Haha I didn't expect Yunda and Zeping to wish me a Happy Birthday. (':
And I also received a birthday call from my section! They also asked me to run to school because I was going to be late lololol. (I jaywalked ok T_T)

Anyway, wow I was late for school!!
Haha didn't get booked though. ^^;
Exchanged presents with Rachel Lee and Joyce after morning assembly.
I still find it very cool how the 3 of us were born on the same day, same hospital and at very close timings too! xD

OCLLYYY, Sasha, Yiling, Yijia, Yunyu, Huimin, Ruiyang and Zeping celebrated my birthday for me!! ;A;  so touched. (I'm sorry if I left anyone out T_T)
They bought me a red velvet cupcake! It was so pretty that I didn't know how to eat it lol.
And they presented to me their very creative and cute gift which I love a lot. ^^
Oh! And Xinying gave me a present too!
Hahah I was so surprised. :D
Eelynn was so cute! She passed me her present during math lecture lololol xD
I was so shocked when Wenhao, Jiangjie, Bihao, Shueh Chien and Cruise wished me today too!

Went to catch Werewolf Boy with Jenny! :D
But before that.....
sigh. Today is such a happy yet unlucky day lol.
We went to JP and bought some sushi since we were a lil' hungry...
And after eating the sushi, I lost my wallet!! T_T
We ran through the whole JP and searched at the places we went to but we couldn't find it!!
No poor wallet...... and my dear photocards inside them D:
Oh and that's not all, I received a call from Eurasia saying that my Qoo parcel was lost. :/
THANKFULLY, I chose the registered mail option so they will help me re-order and send it to me. ^^

Werewolf boy is so amazing!!
I cried and trembled so hard that the chair was shaking really badly and I had to cover my mouth to stop the crying and sniffing sounds. ;A;
Thinking about it now.... ahhh my tears are coming back!! T__T
CHEOLSU AH~~~
I don't get why Suni still went back in the end though ):
I wanted her to stay!! T_T
Ahh... so heartwrecking..

"Wait for me. I'll come back."

Just in case you guys don't know what movie it is, here is the trailer! :D
Park Boyoung is so pretty! ;A;

And~~~ here are the presents I received today! :D

This is from my sis!
When I opened it, pieces of newspaper fell out. Can you spot the present?
LOL. She tricked me!
That pig is actually my magnet and she just took it and wrapped it up. =__=

This is from Xinying!
Haha super unexpected.
Thank you Xinying!!

This is from Joyce!
I cried while reading your letter ;A;
And I cried even harder when I opened the small envelope and saw the polaroids.
Omg Joyce!! T_T
Thank you so much!!

This is from TEENTOPSG!
LOL, it's supposedly a New Year's gift, not a birthday present.
But since I got it today, I shall treat it as my bday gift! :D
Ahh~~ so beautiful T_T
Thank you TTSG!  (':

This is from Eelynn!
Omg it's so pretty she must have spent so much time on it.
Thank you Eelynn!!
I'll use the dust charms! :D

And last but not least, presenting to you~~
THE MOST CREATIVE PRESENT 2013!

LOLOL! I told them that I hate getting food as gifts and guess what they gave me?
AMANUM ICE CREAM! (magnum haha) ^^
I love the ice cream shaped cards!! (+ tian and ruiyang's card too ^^)
Thank you OCLLYYY!! (+ ruiyang)
It's really very very nice and I like it a lot! (':
Only you guys will be so creative and cute lol!

Well, that's the end of 11 Jan 2013. Sadly. ):
I've had a wonderful birthday, thanks everybody!
I love you all~ ♥

O levels
Thursday, January 10, 2013 | 0 comments
We got back our HCL O level results today...

HELL YEAH A1

Hahha! Omg I can't believe it..
My hands were trembling and I didn't know how to react what I saw my result slip.
I couldn't believe it.

I've been getting Cs for chinese exams and the mock paper.
Honestly, I expected myself to get a C during HCL O levels too after I heard the rumour that 50% of our cohort got C and below and 23 people failed.
Haha! I remember standing next to Hui Xin and going "It's either you or me" lol.

Everybody was scrambling to get our result slips and our class went so crazy!
4H did pretty well despite all the "You guys are going to fail terribly" comments/naggings from our chinese teachers last year.
We were screaming and hugging each other while the other classes were sitting down!
And like what Miaoye said, "Today I felt as if I never really left the class as I sat with 4H today."
Oh yeah speaking of Miaoye, she even cried tears of joy because she couldn't believe that she got A1 for English!
Congrats Miaoye!! ^^ You've worked hard. (:

That's it!
No more chinese exams for the REST OF MY LIFE.
BOOYAH~
But I got to keep reading chinese books!
Can't let my chinese go down the drain.
The clock has struck and it's probably time for me to frequent the library!
